Kalwakurthy Grampanchayat is upgraded as Nagarapanchayat as GO Ms No. 105, Dt: 22.03.2013, it is an ancient town and it was under the rule of Nizam of Hyderabad, and at the time of Re-Organization of the State in the year 1956, Kalwakurthy town was included in Mahabubnagar district in AndhraPradesh. The extent of area of Kalwakurthy Nagarapanchayat is 14.50 Sq.Km , the population of the town as per 2001 census is 25146, and as per 2011 Census is 28110 now its population as 29000 and also there is a floating population of approximately 2,500 daily from the surrounding mandals and Villages. Recently ward division revision accordingly it has consisting 20 Election wards.
